Copying colors using Copy and Paste
You can copy colors from a palette using copy and paste, in two ways:
- Copy and pasting colors between palettes
- Copy and pasting colors within a palette.
The procedure to follow is given below:
- If required, open the color reference model containing the palette you wish to copy colors from, as described in Opening a color reference model.
- Select the palette wells containing the colors you wish to copy.
- Choose Edit > Copy (or press Ctrl-C).
- Select the palette wells in the new palette where you want to paste the copied colors.
- Choose Edit > Paste (or press Ctrl-V).
- If the colors you have selected to copy don't all match (by name) the palette wells you have selected to copy them into, the Partial Match dialog box is displayed:

- Click on:
- Cancel to cancel the paste operation.
- Discard to continue with the paste; pasting all colors that match and discarding any unmatched colors.
- Create New to continue with the paste; pasting all colors that match and creating new palette wells for unmatched colors at the end of the palette.
Creating fixed palette windows
If required, you can also create a copy of any palette in a separate window. The window is fixed so that it only displays one particular palette. This is useful when you wish to copy colors between two palettes.
To create a new 'fixed' Palette window:
- Click on the palette you want to copy, in the Browser window.
- Choose Palettes > New Palette Window.
- A new Palette window is displayed containing the selected palette:

You can open as many fixed Palette windows as you like, using the above procedure.
Linking fixed palette windows
To link the selections made in the fixed Palette window to the selection made in the main Palette window, check the As Document box. This ensures that any changes you make to the palette in either window are reflected in both windows.
